LLP – Secondary 1
Love Our School
Secondary 1 students engaged in a year-long project undertaking the tasks including growing their own plants, raising funds, conducting interviews and cooking. By engaging them in these activities, students were also provided with the opportunity to apply content matter learnt in the various subjects such as Biology, Mother Tongue, Geography and Craft and Tech. For example, as students watched their planted seeds grow into crops, they carried out water testing and looked into the various factors that influenced plant growth. Students were also tasked to interview the different support staff which provided them with insight to this group of individuals, which helped them to empathise with the support staff and deepen their commitment to serve and give back to this important group of individuals.
Our Secondary 1 LLP culminated with Bendemeer Secondary’s Appreciation Day on 26 October 2016, when students showed their appreciation and expressed their thanks to the school’s Support Officers. Students cooked dishes using their harvest and classrooms were decorated in various themes, in relation to the ethnicities and traditions in Singapore. In the midst of the celebratory and festive atmosphere, our students were able to play a part in making the school community a more embracing one, contributing towards building a more caring and nurturing school culture.
