2016 has been a rewarding year for the Bendemeer NCC (Land) Unit. We obtained the Gold award for our annual Best Unit Competition in 2015. This is an improvement from 2014 and we were given recognition for the hard work and effort put in by our teacher officers, cadet officers, specialists and cadets.
For the year 2016, our NCC cadets took part in a wide range of activities which challenged them both mentally and physically. In March, we had our annual Unit Camp. One of the highlights of the camp was when the cadets navigated in their teams from school to Mount Faber. The experience instilled values of perseverance and resilience in our cadets, especially for the junior cadets as most of them had not hiked such a long distance before. It also gave them a sense of accomplishment when they completed the hike.
For Unit Cohesion Day this year, the cadets did their part to preserve the environment by cleaning up the beach at East Coast Park. The cadets cycled around East Coast Park and played team bonding games at allocated checkpoints. It was definitely a memorable and fun experience for them. Cadets and teacher officers also got to bond with one another through the activity.
This year, MSG Fu Da Hai did our Unit proud for being awarded the outstanding cadet award by HQ NCC. CPT Lawrence Ng, together with , SSG Khant Sithu Hein, 3SG Tan Zhi Bin, 3SG Khor Geng Hui, 3SG Andy Lee and 3SG Tan Tian Hong also represented our unit to scale Mt Ophir with NCC cadets from other schools.
All in all, it has been an eventful year for the Bendemeer NCC (Land) Unit. We will continue to challenge and develop our cadets as we build a NCC that is Nurturing, Committed and Cool.
