Drama-Tamil is a CCA that combines learning and fun at the same time. It has been continuously winning prestigious awards and gaining recognition, making the school proud. Students have benefitted through the fruitful and meaningful experiences and opportunities which are great platforms for students to showcase their talents as well as to be groomed to become reliable leaders. It hones leadership skills and instils important values. There are several competitions and workshops lined up every year. This year, members participated in workshops such as, Creative Writing, Poetry, Translation, Literacy, Culture & Arts and Drama skills. We also took part in competitions namely, the National Debate Competition, Sorkalam, MOE Creative Writing, Rangoli, Singing and Classical Dancing. These opportunities allowed us to gain in-depth knowledge of the Indian culture and customs.
Specifically, we participated in an important event this year, ‘Sorkalam 2016’, which was telecasted live on Vasantham Channel. This is one of the major events organised by the Singapore Tamil Council. We were very proud to emerge as runners-up in this national debate competition after a close fight with Raffles Institution. This award is testament to our hard work. In fact, this would not have been possible without the sacrifices of our Tamil teachers. It was a memorable journey and the debaters who were shy to speak up in public later became more confident speakers. As we move towards becoming a Smart Nation, our students participated in the Apps Creation Competition. We also enjoyed the Pongal celebration, as well as the Deepavali Concert that returned after a 3 year hiatus. Lastly, a 2D1N camp was organised in school with various interesting segments. One of which was the ‘Trail Shuttle’ at Botanic Gardens. In addition, we enjoyed an array of exciting events such as the Amazing Race. We also valued the opportunity to make friends and enhance the use of Tamil Language during the Cluster Camp which involved all the schools in the same zone. Tamil Drama definitely provides members with a myriad of experiences.
