2016 was an eventful year for the Bendemeer Choir. We started the year with a bang, as we set up a karaoke booth during Open House, where our enthusiastic Choir seniors invited the Secondary Ones to croon along to the karaoke tracks of latest pop hits.
The Choir also displayed civic responsibility as we did our bit for the community during the Kolam Ayer Community Club National Day Observance Ceremony Celebration, as we were given the honour to lead in the singing of the National Anthem. We also had a chance to bond with the elderly at St Luke’s Eldercare Golden Years Centre. Our students sure enjoyed preparing an interesting repertoire for the elderly, bringing them some festive cheer. These performances provide our members a chance to hone their musicality and sound through outdoor performance venues that are useful platforms for them to build their confidence and showcase their talent.
One particularly memorable event that our Choir members enjoyed tremendously was spending the evening watching the stellar performance by the Seoul Ladies Singers Primavera. They performed a wide spectrum of musical genres from classical to pop and even musicals, where the classical choral group gamely broke out in dance.
Our students also tested their mettle during the intensive practices at the Choir Camp, where they honed their singing skills. It was also a time for the committee members to display their leadership skills, as they planned exciting water games as well as organised an Amazing Race at night for their juniors. For the camp finale, the Choir members had a friendly singing competition where they showed off their many musical talents as well as sleek dance moves.
As we usher in 2017, our Choir members will once again be put to the test as we prepare for the upcoming SYF. We will continue to challenge and nurture our Choir members to scale greater heights as we look forward to an even more fulfilling year in 2017.
