Arts Education Programme Committee
In Bendemeer, we believe that arts education plays a vital role in the holistic development of a child. Being involved in art creation and appreciation helps to ignite one’s creativity, and improves critical thinking and communication skills. Art experience can help develop confidence and a spirit of exploration. Learning to appreciate the arts helps to promote engagement and enjoyment as well as enhances one’s ability to build connections with the community and our unique local culture.
Our committee aims to provide various platforms to develop students into confident, creative and self-directed learners through the Arts, and in the process, encourage individuals to contribute to the community.
- To help our students and staff develop an appreciation for the Arts.
- To foster students’ and staff’s interest in the Arts
Arts Education Key Programmes
We expose students and staff to the Performing Arts during our school assembly programmes. Students will be able to learn the various types of Art forms available.
The Theatre Experience
The theatre experience provides the opportunity to let our students have the real experience of appreciating a drama/ performing arts item in a real theatre setting.
The Photography Experience
This is a platform for students to learn photography through taking photos of school events. Students will also have the opportunity to learn more about developing and printing photographs using ‘dark room’ techniques.
The Arts Experience
This programme is a collection of popular arts workshops in the market for students. For a start, we have conducted Ukulele for Beginners, Making a Photogramme.
Coffee, Arts & Tea Session (Staff)
A newly coined term (CATS) that encapsulates the meaning of Staff Welfare. These sessions aim to provide staff members with new ways of learning and a pleasing aesthetic and therapeutic experience.
Showcase Events (competitions and exhibitions)
Joining compeitions and exhibitions helps to develop a student’s character and emphasises the inculcation of values such as resilience and confidence. We took part in the SYF Festival, Canon Photo Marathon, and Landscape photography competition organised by Singapore Polytechnic. We took part in a Kolam Ayer Project 6PM photography project and two of our students won the Top and merit prize for the event.
